Remembering Jean-Maurice Bonneau as a New Generation Begins

In these days, as the Young Riders Academy Selection is in full process, a new generation of talented riders is taking their first steps toward a future in the sport. But while we look ahead with excitement, we also take a moment to look back and remember someone who played an irreplaceable role in shaping YRA and its values—Jean-Maurice Bonneau.

One year ago, we lost not only an incredible professional but also a beloved friend. His passion, dedication, and wisdom guided many of the riders who are now at the highest levels of the sport. As a sports advisor and selection panel member, Jean-Maurice helped identify and nurture young talent, always emphasizing the values of sportsmanship, excellence, and horse welfare.

In his role as a sports advisor and panel member in selecting members of the Young Riders, he did a fantastic job. But above all, he will be remembered by all of us as a sincere friend whose sensitivity and enthusiasm sustained the highest values of ethical sport and the welfare of horses."Eleonora and Valentina Ottaviani

Jean-Maurice was not just a mentor; he was a source of inspiration. His passion for the sport and his dedication to its future were evident in every interaction, every discussion, every decision he made. Those who had the privilege of working alongside him will always remember his wisdom and kindness, his ability to see the bigger picture, and his deep-rooted belief in nurturing the next generation of riders.

" Today we have to remember that one year ago, one of the true, passionate people who was very much involved with the Young Riders Academy, Jean-Maurice Bonneau, passed away. We always remember him as being a great horseman and a gentleman. Thank you."Emile Hendrix

His passing left a void, one that cannot be filled. But while we mourn his absence, we also celebrate the legacy he left behind—the riders he guided, the standards he upheld, and the friendships he forged. His influence continues to be felt in the Academy, in the careers of the riders he believed in, and in the sport he dedicated his life to.

"It is with deep sadness we are reminded of the fact that last year’s selection was the last time we had the pleasure of enjoying the service of Jean-Maurice Bonneau. We deeply miss him as a close friend and as an equestrian person with extremely profound knowledge of our sport. Young Riders Academy suffered a great loss, but still, our thoughts in this moment go to his children and other close friends."Sven Holmberg , Jerome Dubbledam

As this new group of young riders steps into the selection process, his presence is still felt among us. Those who knew him speak of him often, his legacy woven into the very fabric of the Academy.

"Jean-Maurice, during these two days of the Young Riders Academy selection, you should have been standing here instead of me. You remain at the heart of our conversations, and your spirit is always with us.
We will never forget you."Thierry Pomel

Jean-Maurice Bonneau, you are deeply missed, but never forgotten.
